At this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC 26), wearable devices were everywhere. From smartphone brands and chip giants to AI platforms and emerging hardware players, everyone was addressing the same question:

Are wearables becoming the gateway to the next wave of technology?

The answer is becoming increasingly clear—and exciting.

Smartwatches Take Center Stage Again

Major brands such as Huawei, HONOR, Xiaomi, and Motorola placed smartwatches at the forefront of their showcases. No longer secondary accessories, these devices now stand alongside flagship smartphones.

For these companies, smartwatches are no longer just health trackers. They are becoming the first point of interaction with AI services.

Across the board, products emphasized advanced sports algorithms, comprehensive health monitoring, and proactive AI-driven features. Huawei highlighted its marathon training capabilities, Xiaomi introduced long-battery-life models, and HONOR explored new directions in AI-powered fitness awareness.

Wearables are no longer accessories. They are becoming the “edge devices” of human data.

At the same time, the smartwatch category is moving beyond price competition. The focus is shifting toward system integration and chip performance. This signals a deeper evolution in both business models and product philosophy. It will also drive upstream manufacturing and design services, while encouraging more brands to enter the space with differentiated offerings.

Personal AI Is No Longer a Concept—It’s a Product

At MWC, Qualcomm made its direction clear. The next generation of Snapdragon platforms will fully support on-device AI. Wearable chips can already run multimodal models locally.

This means future watches and glasses will not just display data—they will understand users.

Alibaba also announced that its wearable ecosystem will be integrated into Tongyi Qianwen, moving away from the Quark system. This reflects a broader trend of AI platform consolidation in China. For brands and developers, this means clearer access and more open capabilities.

AI is no longer just an application. It is becoming infrastructure. Wearables are likely to be the first to benefit at scale.

This shift enables devices to offer continuous support and adaptive learning. It also changes how users interact with technology at a fundamental level.

Invisible Interaction, Visible Direction

MWC also showcased breakthroughs in interaction design.

Meta introduced its latest smart glasses alongside a Neural Band wrist device. Using EMG sensors, the system captures subtle muscle movements in the hand, allowing users to control the interface without touching the device.

A simple finger movement or wrist rotation can scroll, select, or adjust settings.

This “intent-based interaction” shifts control from physical input to human perception. It further blurs the boundary between people and devices.

Although still evolving, this approach signals an important direction. When touch is no longer the main interface, wearables may become “invisible extensions” of daily life.

Interaction is moving from commands to intent, and from functions to understanding. This will define the next phase of wearable technology.

At the same time, smart glasses continued to gain momentum at MWC. Alongside Meta and RayNeo, Alibaba introduced its Qwen-powered smart glasses.

The key strength of Qwen glasses lies in embedding large-model capabilities directly into the device. They support multi-turn conversations, real-time responses, and daily assistance functions.

Users can interact through natural voice without relying on a smartphone or cloud connection. Tasks such as information search, scheduling, and navigation can be completed directly on the device.

Unlike earlier AR glasses focused on display, these AI-driven glasses emphasize service and efficiency. They are designed to understand user needs and integrate into daily life.

This direction aligns closely with WINNOTIME’s focus on human-centered experiences. As AI platforms integrate further with devices, smart glasses may become a key carrier of personal AI.

As President Zhu Shunhua stated: “Wearables are created for people, stay with people, and serve people. Watches, earphones, glasses, and rings act as extensions of the human body, enhancing everyday life.”

Shenzhen’s Response: Not Just Seeing, but Building

While global brands present visions at MWC, Shenzhen is turning those ideas into industrial reality.

This June, WINNOTIME—the Wearable Innovation Expo—will offer a structured, local response.

With the theme “Innovation Leads the Future, Time Proves Everything,” the event focuses on product innovation, intelligent manufacturing, and AI integration.

WINNOTIME aims to showcase China’s latest capabilities in precision manufacturing, industrial design, and system integration. It also strengthens collaboration across the value chain.

As an evolution of the China (Shenzhen) International Watch Fair, the event bridges traditional watchmaking with smart and AI-driven technologies. It brings together companies across chips, design, modules, brands, and platforms to present a complete industry ecosystem.

Shenzhen has a strong foundation in wearables. The city produces over 95% of China’s watches, including components, and offers a fully integrated chain covering R&D, design, manufacturing, and testing. It is widely known as the “watch capital of China.”

Even more notably, smartwatches made in Shenzhen account for around 90% of global shipments. This reflects both strong manufacturing capacity and a highly flexible supply chain.

Against this backdrop, WINNOTIME is more than an exhibition. It represents both a restart and an upgrade.

After a six-year pause, the return of Shenzhen Watch Week signals the industry’s willingness to embrace innovation. It creates a shared platform where manufacturers, designers, technology providers, and channels can explore future directions together.

Policy support is also encouraging the integration of traditional watchmaking with emerging wearable technologies.

At the same time, the concept of a “Wearable Park” is gaining momentum. The goal is to build a long-term collaboration space where industry connections extend beyond the exhibition and become a continuous ecosystem.

This is not just an event. It is a convergence of the entire industry.

A Stronger Global Willingness to Collaborate

During MWC, we visited wearable brands, component suppliers, and technology platforms from Europe, North America, and East Asia.

Across all conversations, one message stood out: Companies want more stable and efficient ways to connect with China’s innovation ecosystem. They are not just looking to exhibit—they are looking to collaborate.

A shared understanding is emerging. No single company can shape the future of wearables alone. Collaboration, open standards, and trust are becoming the key drivers.

This is where platforms like WINNOTIME create real value. They act as connectors.

Shenzhen’s strengths in manufacturing, supply chain coordination, product integration, and global market insight position it as a key bridge in this ecosystem.

Conclusion: Not New Devices, but New Relationships

From MWC to Shenzhen, from watches and glasses to AI and neural interaction, what we are seeing is not just a wave of new devices.

It is a new relationship between people and technology.

WINNOTIME and the upcoming Wearable Park represent this shift. They connect brands, chipmakers, platforms, manufacturers, and industry organizations—turning innovation into real opportunities.

Wearables are no longer just a trend. They represent a new way for industries to collaborate.

The real impact of this transformation will not lie only in products, but in how trust and connections are built across the ecosystem.
